MCO 2.0 – 5 To-dos During Lockdown to Stay Active | Serviced Office KL

Serviced Office KL: Tip #1 - Stay Active

On 13 January 2021, the second enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) was ordered by the government amid spikes in daily COVID-19 infections, where employees were requested to put their traditional offices, serviced office kl or coworking space kl behind them and work from home (WFH) to curb the spread of the pandemic.

With much of our work and personal lives happening in the comfort of our own homes, it’s easy to find ourselves slacking, spending hours on end on the couch. And while working from home definitely has its perks (time saved from commuting, working with pajamas on, great homemade coffee, and the list goes on…), it’s important to continue to stay active while at home.

Here are some easy ways to keep yourself moving and staying active during MCO 2.0:

1. Walk it out

serviced office kl - walk it out

Say it with me – you don’t need an expensive gym membership to stay active. One of the most overlooked exercises is actually, walking! It’s easy, convenient, and before you know it, you would’ve burnt 200 calories in just a 30-minute walk. Whether indoors or outdoors, walking is a great way to get your body moving.

Colony fitness tip: Schedule a walk in the morning or afternoon to break up your day. You can also set hourly timers to remind yourself to get up and moving.

2. Take advantage of free online workouts

If you find yourself eager to move during MCO 2.0, take advantage of free online workouts. There are plenty available online, catering to different needs, like high-intensity interval training, pilates, circuit training, yoga, sleep-focused meditation, and more!

Here are some of our favourites:

  • Nike Training Club app Workouts range from beginner to more advanced moves as you progress and allow you to choose from bodyweight-only programs to plans with full equipment.
  • 1Flex Malaysian’s First Fitness App that offers coached workout programs tailored to your fitness level and goals guided by top local trainers.
  • Sydney Cummings a personal trainer with a popular YouTube workout channel, Sydney uploads new workouts for you to follow through daily. Don’t be fooled by her 20-minute workouts, you’ll feel the burn.

3. Set yourself up for success

There are certain habits that you can incorporate into your daily routine to set yourself up for success. Perhaps start your day in workout clothes? If you’re already in your workout gear with your fitness equipment close to you, it’s easy to transition into exercise halfway through the day. Preparing your workout gear in advance also saves you the time of fumbling about looking for your missing earbuds or gloves.

Colony fitness tip: Keep your workout equipment near your workspace so you can easily use your dumbbells while listening to an online meeting.

4. Use household items that double as gym weights

With gyms closed around the city, it’s easy to feel unmotivated. However, did you know that even without all that fancy gym equipment, you can easily elevate your home workouts by using household items readily available to you? Check out some of our favourite workouts using household items:

  • Bicep curl – Use a filled water bottle and double it as a weight for your bicep curls.
  • Tricep dips or push-ups – Your dining chair can also be used for some easy exercises such as tricep dips or incline push-ups.
  • Weighted squats – If you’ve got a laundry detergent bottle at home, carry it while doing your squats for that extra burn. These can add an extra 2-3 kgs depending on how big your bottle is.
  • Planks – Modify your planks with the extra toilet paper rolls you have lying around your home. Stack four rolls of toilet paper in front of your left shoulder and repeat it for your right. Repeat the stack until your 60-second timer is up!

5. Staying active isn’t just about physical health

While staying active is the best way to keep our bodies healthy, it isn’t all about physical health. it’s also about keeping yourself properly hydrated, eating well, and taking breaks throughout the day. All these steps, when combined, can improve our overall wellbeing and quality of life.
